Wk beginning 26.5.20
Thank you so much to all you wonderful year 1 parents for signing up so efficiently to Google Classroom. It means that I am able to continue
posting the year 1 home school work on there, rather than this website. I appreciate this very much!
This is a three day week as Monday is a bank holiday and Friday is an Inservice Day for the teachers, so you get an extra day off! There will
be no work set over what would have been TT Practise and Race week as the government have recognised the importance of having a break and
time to focus on well-being! So the next work will be available on the weekend before Monday 13th June. We hope you enjoy the short week of
learning next week! Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me via Google Mail. Lots of love, Mrs B xx
Google Update - urgent
We have been advised that we need parent permission to continue the children's Google accounts. The reasons for this are posted on our Google Classroom page on the website. We could do with an immediate response to prevent any disruption to children’s learning or communication.
We can accept parent authority in the form of an email to our Sulby enquiries address or by responding positively to the text that we are sending out today.
Maths lesson 1 - Please note these do not match the BBC /White rose Daily lesson videos. We have already completed this week's work so we are doing some revision of number work. Do the first sheet and if you found it very easy, tackle the next one.
Literacy: All about cats
Science for this week is all posted on our Google Classroom but will be uploaded to this website by Tuesday 9am if the website usage has to be suspended.
Art and Craft ideas: Creative cat collage
I am very very pleased and proud that we have managed to get our whole year 1 class logged in to our Google Classroom. So for this week, week 6 of home learning, from 11th May 2020, the home school work for year 1 is now all on Google Classroom. Please use the contact on this page to message Mr Jackson or contact me directly on the Google Classroom if you have any problems or queries. Many thanks and best wishes, Mrs Bovenizer
Hello year 1: This is your home school work for the week beginning 4th May 2020. From next week, I am proposing to put all the year 1 home learning on google classroom instead of this website. It's the last week of our Dinosaur topic so it seems like a good time to make this change. Please let Mr Jackson know if you can see any problems with this so we can do the best thing for everyone.
This week, there is a bank holiday on Friday to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Culture Vannin are encouraging us to celebrate this occasion at home. You can look on their website for lots of ideas, or you might like to click on the links below. So its worth planning for Friday now so that you can mark the occasion in your own way.
Maths: This week we are back to Addition and Subtraction and match with the daily lesson videos on white rose.com. I would strongly recommend your child watches these videos before doing the activity. There is no flashback maths this week so i have suggested on your timetable that you take some time to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards. Also try a number bond challenge - think of a number up to 10 and try finding as many ways as you can to make the number.
For example, I chose 8
1+7 2+6 3+5 4+4 5+3 6+2 7+1
Oh I nearly forgot 0+8 and 8+0
Now take aways REMEMBER start with a bigger number 9-1 10-2 11-3 12-4
Did you see a pattern? Can you use a pattern in your number too?
Parents - FYI this is the plan for year 1 this term!
Maths Lesson 1 (Monday 4th May)
Phonics lesson: Note There are words here which do NOT have the ph spelling! You aren't supposed to colour those ones in. If you need any help let me know on Google Classroom.
Literacy comprehension lessons:
Read through the book Dinosaurs before you do each of these lessons. This slide will be useful too!
Science: Have a read through these slides with your grown up.
Now, for your writing activity, write some sentences in your book about the 3 things plants need to be healthy - put lots of information in each sentence and use some of the special science words off these slides. You might like to explain what happens if plants do not get these things. Finally, can you draw a picture of an unhealthy plant?
Art and Craft:
Sorry this paper folding is only suitable for those with access to a printer
History/Topic: You will need the Dinosaurs e-book for this
Here are some of the dinosaur skeletons that palaeontologists like Mary Anning found.
An extra activity:
Can you learn this great poem to say to your family?
Here is the book for all the literacy for the week of 4th May in case you couldn't access it on Google Classroom.
Hello lovely year 1 children! This is the fourth week of home learning and is for the week beginning 27th April 2020.
A suggested timetable for this week.
Blank for your own itinerary.
I will post some of the resources below on our Google Classroom as well. You can already access word walls 11-20 if you are ready for the next one. You may send your enquiries to SulbyEnquiries@sch.im or use our Google Classroom. I will be online regularly Monday - Friday so feel free to post photos of your child's work or any questions you have.
Exciting news! We can read lots of books online if you follow the instructions below by clicking the link!
Oxford Owl e-books
To enable you to have access to banded reading books throughout the school closure, we have created class logins which will enable you to access loads of great online ebooks from Oxford Owl. We have many books from this company in our school reading scheme and there is a great range of books at each level for you to choose from. You just need to go to the Oxford Owl site and look for the pink ‘My Class Login’ icon.
You will be asked for your class username and password. For year 1 these are as follows...
username - sulbyy1
password - GetreadingY1
Once you have done this you can access the books through ‘My Bookshelf’ which organises the books by suitable age range but if you access as a PARENT you can then click ‘Browse ebooks’ and you will arrive at a page which allows you to “Browse by Oxford Level’. Next to the Oxford levels you will see the book band colours that you are familiar with. Just click on your colour and you will find a fab range of books to explore! You can read them yourself, have them read to you by hitting the audio button or do a bit of both! Have fun!
IMPORTANT: Google Documents - please ignore the password in my
letter below. The password as of Monday 20th April 2020 is
School2020. If there are any problems please
mail the school enquiries email address.
Did I tell you about the time I went to a dinosaur museum in
London? Can you guess how I was feeling?
