Spring 1st half
This term the children have been studying the text 'Secrets of a Sun King.' They have been learning how to use evidence from the text in their comprehension answers to support their viewpoint and have used a variety of writing styles to complete writing challenges.
Our Ancient Egypt topic has been a fascinating adventure and we have learnt about mummification to Gods and Goddesses! In our Design and Technology lessons the children have designed and made an Egyptian game in small groups and asked year 3 to test them out! The high quality of these games are a true reflection of the high standards the children set themselves. In our art lessons the children have researched the famous Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt and they have used clay to make their own Egyptian wall hangings.
They have also started to prepare our school garden beds for our new planting season and they have their potatoes 'chitting' away in the classroom. The children have also begun growing their own mushrooms, chillies and herbs in the classroom, in addition to some lilies! They have decided to plant carrots, parsnips, white turnips, onions, red onions, garlic (which is already in!) Spring Onions, Lettuce and Radishes! It will be a bountiful harvest!
We have also celebrated Chinese New Year as part of our China focus on the 1st February. The children had individual challenges, performed a dragon dance around the school at the end of the day and tried a variety of traditional Chinese dishes using chopsticks.

Autumn 2nd half
Year 6 have continued with their 'Conflict' topic this half term and have had a great insight to WW1 and what soldiers and families encountered to enable our safe world today. They designed and made their very own trenches for home learning and to say I was blown away with their creativity is an understatement! Year 6 then travelled to Castletown to learn new art techniques when painting on ceramics and produced the most beautiful poppy tiles to take home. They also led a beautiful Remembrance assembly to our local community. In addition to this they have been studying 'War Horse' by Micheal Morpurgo in literacy and have produced some outstanding pieces of writing.
As part of COP 26 the children have worked in small groups focussing on the different ways we can help our world - the oceans, the forests, fossil fuels and energy, human activity and the weather. Their work has then been displayed in our classroom to raise awareness. Year 6 really are ready to take on the next COP themselves - watch this space!
In science the children have been studying 'Mighty Microbes' and have had experiments set up all over the place! I was even refused entry to my stock cupboard one week due to an investigation that had been set up in there! They have got into excellent habits in writing up investigations in preparation for Secondary School.
Year 6 have also prepared our school garden for winter, they have planted garlic and an early crop of onions so that they can have the benefits of visits from Jack Frost over our winter months!
We would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas,

Autumn term 1st Half
Welcome to year 6 and what a busy start it has been! We started the year learning about our class country China and have produced some beautiful persuasive writing on 'Saving the Giant Panda'. We have also started our Silver LGA adventure with a trip to Ape Mann. The children displayed outstanding team work skills and were an absolute pleasure to take on the trip.
The children have also been able to harvest our school garden with an after school sale of our vegetables. This was a great success and we have now raised enough money for year 6 to start thinking about and planning what they would like to grow in the new year. Nothing is quite as exciting as digging up potatoes that you have grown!
