Welcome to Year 4!
Autumn 2:
This half term in year 4, the children have learnt lots more all about the Victorian era.
Year 4 have taken part in a Victorian school role play day and have dressed up as Victorian school children. They took part in fun activities like cross stitching and making rope bracelets. We also looked at traditional Victorian lesson practices such as chanting. The year 4 class were very well behaved today as we introduced strict Victorian rules such as the dunces hat and writing lines.
Year 4 have also worked very hard to produce a Victorian assembly which they performed to the school on Monday 13th. They did very well to learn all their lines and songs in time and they put on a great show!
On World Kindness Day year wrote compliment cards for each other. Everyone wrote a compliment for every other person in the class and at the end they read their own cards. This was a lovely activity and made the children realise again just how important it is to be kind!
We are looking forward to the Spring term.
Autumn 1:
Year 4 have had a fantastic start to the year.
In the first few days we looked at developing a growth mindset. Year 4 have created growth mindset board games, with the idea that they move forward in the game if they have a growth mindset and they stay where they are if they have a fixed mindset. We discussed that this resembles real life, in that you succeed with a growth mindset and a fixed mindset can often hold you back.
We began the year by exploring our country, Germany. We have looked at Berlin, famous landmarks and have learned some of the language. Year 4 have created their own scripts and have performed German conversations with their peers to the class. With Germany’s national animal being the Federal Eagle, we created a class canvas of the eagle which is displayed in the front entrance.
They have carried out fantastic science experiments during their solids and liquids topic. We have looked at melting and freezing during one week and have also investigated the speed that ice would melt in different conditions. The children have also been learning how to conduct and record a scientific investigation which they have loved.
Recently, Sulby have taken part in active travel to school week. Lots of children in year 4 chose active ways to come to school in the mornings. We have had children who cycled, scooted, kayaked, walked and even horse riding!
