Welcome to Year 2!
Spring 1
This half-term year 2 have been on an African Safari! They have studied the different continents and oceans across the world and worked hard to consider the many countries within Africa. We have trekked across the continent, visited cities, villages, the savanna, the jungle and grassy plains! Along the way they encountered many different animals and observed wonderfully diverse landscapes.
The children have been working hard on their 3D jeeps, designing their vehicles, building and then decorating them. They have also experimented with various medias within art to paint stunning water colour animal pictures and to make collage and 3D lions. Within ICT they were lucky enough to work with Mr. Townsend from the old ‘computer bus’ to try-out using green screen. They used pages to design some incredible African Safari backgrounds and were able to green-screen themselves into them. Lots of fun was had by all!
Year 2 have also loved their class responsibility of litter picking on our school grounds, trying their best with the rest of the school to look our wonderful planet. They have also been working hard to use punctuation with accuracy in their writing, to use money and to work out some tricky multiplication and division calculations in maths and have been learning about how humans and animals survive and keep themselves healthy within science… what a hard-working bunch! Well done year 2, a fantastic term once again!
Autumn 2
Somehow it is nearly Christmas and what an incredible term Year 2 have had! I am so proud of them and they should all be very proud of themselves too! We have been practising using 'perfect punctuation' in our writing, ensuring we use full stops and capital letters. We have even been learning about exclamation sentences and question sentences too!
The fairies have been visiting and we have been helping them look after their very own dragon! We have written lists, questions and letters and even made our own dragon eggs!
In maths our brains have still been ticking away, adding and subtracting to 100 and we have been super scientists thinking about the suitability of lots of different materials. The fun hasn't stopped there! We have been learning lots about knights and castles, designing and making our own shields and even visiting Castle Rushen.
The children were absolutely brilliant in their Christmas Nativity and genuinely blew me away with what they managed to achieve. Loud and clear voices, amazing dance moves, super singing and great big smiles! I am very excited about what we will achieve next term. Well done Year 2 you are all superstars!
Autumn 1
What an amazing start to the year we have had in Year 2! We have been ‘cock-a-doodle-doing’ with the French Gallic Rooster, creating a giant canvas and individual artwork. The children studied local artist Margaret Hewson’s style and used water colours to create some beautifully colourful pieces. We have been making our brains ‘tick-tick-tick’ whilst becoming super mathematicians and learning place value all the way up to 100 and have been working hard to form beautiful sentences using perfect punctuation in literacy. There’s been lots more lovely learning too - what a busy start!
It has been great seeing some beautiful and cheeky smiles as the children come into class every day and they are making themselves and their teacher very proud. Well done Year 2!
