Our Reception class is designed to provide a rich and engaging learning environment that aligns with the Development Matters guidance and is supported by the Cornerstones Curriculum. We believe that early childhood education is crucial in laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Our approach is child-centred, focusing on the individual needs and interests of each pupil. We create a nurturing atmosphere where children feel safe to explore, take risks, and express themselves.

In our Reception class, we prioritise a balance of structured and child-initiated learning experiences. Daily phonics sessions are integral to our literacy instruction, helping pupils develop essential reading and writing skills through systematic and engaging activities. We encourage exploration and curiosity through hands-on experiences that connect learning to the world around them. Our curriculum includes a variety of themes and topics that promote understanding of their community, culture, and the natural world, fostering a sense of belonging and curiosity.

We also emphasise the importance of play in learning, recognising that children learn best when they are actively engaged. Our dedicated staff facilitate meaningful interactions and discussions, guiding pupils to develop their vocabulary, social skills, and critical thinking abilities. By providing a stimulating environment enriched with diverse resources, we ensure that every child at Sulby School has the opportunity to thrive and develop a love for learning from an early age.
